NFA Throws Glo Premier League Open

NFA Throws Glo Premier League Open

By Tony Ezimakor Snr Correspondent, Abuja

Nigeria Football Association Appeals Committee Thursday threw the Glo premier league open as it declared a nullity all boardroom points awarded a fortnight ago by Nigeria football league's organizing and Disciplinary committee.

In what appears a landmark decision the committee presided over by NFA Chairman Sani Lulu also ordered replay in three of the contentious matches including the bloodstained tie in Ilorin involving Kwara United and Niger Tornadoes. Both teams were ordered to replay the match at the same venue but behind closed doors. In ruling for the replay the Appeal said it uncovered documentary evidence, which convinced it that supporters of Kwara United and those of visiting Tornadoes openly engaged in the missile war that resulted in the encroachment the bench of Tornadoes. Other matches now to be replayed include Gombe v Jigawa, Gabros v Ebiede and Babanawa v Mighty Jet.

League leaders Kano Pillars had their lead slashed by three points as the appeal upheld the result of their match with Nasarawa united which ended 1-1 but which the O&D had awarded on grounds of the eligibility of a player. Hit hardest by the reversal perhaps is Sunshine Stars which not only lost the three points it was awarded against Sharks of Port Harcourt but had its 2-1 loss to Lobi Stars sustained by the appeal.

On eligibility of Ekele Udojoh(Sharks)Isiaka Olawale( Babanawa) the appeal found that whereas the players in question were ineligible for the affected matches the protesting clubs failed to follow laid down processes and procedure for proving ineligibility. It noted that most of the cases of ineligibility filed by clubs were an after thought at best as they were exhumed and filed almost 4months after the matches.

The committee also quashed the #500,000 fine slammed on OUK by O&D and itself gave a 1year suspension to match commissioner Segun oguntade for poor handling of preceding the match between OUK and Delta Stars.

Meanwhile chairman of Pillars Tukur Babangida has declared his club's determination not to be distracted by the 3-point cancellation assuring fans that pillars in is bent on its maiden debut at the continental stage.

'We have taken the decision in good faith and have put everything behind us. We remain focused on our goal to win the league and go continental next season Insha Allhu', he said

With the Appeals Committee ruling Pillars now have a narrow lead over Tornadoes, Bayelsa United and Heartland while Kwara now have to battle against possible relegation.
