The Deal That Moved Ejiogu To EnyimbaGeorge Akpayen, Email: gakpayen009@yahoo.com, 08066669355Though former Dolphins Football Club goalkeeper, Chijioke Ejiogu, may have joined Enyimba, details behind his move have been uncovered by our correspondent. Saturday Independent was hinted that Ejiogu's move from Dolphins FC to Enyimba was a swap deal rather than a straight one as the clubs are making the football-following public to understand. An insider in the camp of the 2007 Nigerian FA Cup winner, Dolphins FC, could not hold back the information that Ejiogu actually left the club in a swap deal between it (Dolphins FC)and two-time Confederation of African Football (CAF)Champions League, Enyimba. Our source, who informed our correspondent of the details of the move in Lagos during the week and demanded not to have his name in print, hinted that Dolphins FC had to allow Ejiogu leave the Port Harcourt-based club since it became apparent that his heart was no longer with the club. The move of Ejiogu, however, saw Edwin Igbinodavwe move in the other direction with Enyimba parting with some undisclosed transfer fee to finally land its prime target before the start of the new Globacom Premier League season. "The management of Dolphins Football Club was keen on keeping all of its best players for the coming season so as to ensure that the club can gain promotion for the new season. One of such players is goalkeeper Chijioke Ejiogu, who has had a tremendous career with us. But the player wanted a new challenge and the management board of Dolphins Football Club had to let him go under a condition, which I am sure will not be too pleasing to them. "I think Dolphins Football Club was forced to allow Ejiogu go in a swap deal with Enyimba after so many weeks of protracted talks over the player. At the end, Dolphins and Enyimba agreed to a deal in which Ejiogu went to Enyimba while Edwin Igbinodavwe went in the other direction," Saturday Independent was reliably informed. Another twist to the whole transfer saga is that Igbinodavwe, after being used as a bait in the transfer of Ejiogu from Dolphins FC to Enyimba, has moved to city rival club of the former, Sharks Football Club. Saturday Independent understands that Igbinodavwe was allowed to move immediately on a one-season loan to Sharks FC in a bid to continue playing Premier League football, which his new employer cannot offer him. When our correspondent called the media officer of Dolphins FC, China Acheru, to clarify the mode of Ejiogu's transfer to Enyimba, he simply said the former Arugo Football Club player moved to the People's Elephant, as Enyimba is called, for an undisclosed fee. Acheru also said the management of Dolphins FC would make details of the deal available when it deems it appropriate. Meanwhile, Ejiogu is excited about the prospect of joining the five-time Globacom Premier League winner. He showed his satisfaction with the move when he said that he is ready to replicate his performances at Dolphins, where he spent five seasons, with Enyimba, in order to show that he is one of the best goalkeepers in the Nigerian league. Though he admitted that he would miss Dolphins FC, Ejiogu said he would not waste time in settling down to work at Aba amid competition from other goalkeepers in the squad such as injured Rabo Saminou. Enyimba has been known to bulldoze its way during the transfer windows against clubs from the South-south. Only recently, the Aba-based club signed on Monday Osagie from Bayelsa United and before this season had poached away Belgian coach, Maurice Cooreman from Ocean Boys. Enyimba has also been able to grab Emmanuel Ekpo, who has since moved to the Major League Soccer (MLS)in the United States of America (USA).
