Akano Assures Nwangele, Others Of Quality Education

By Uche Nwosu, Correspondent, Owerri

A member of the House of Representatives, Mrs. Juliet Akano, has assured the people in her constituency -Nwangele/Nkwerre/Isu/Njaba federal constituency - of the determination of the National Assembly to improve the educational standards by renovating schools in the constituency.

Akano gave the assurance at Amaigbo, the headquarters of Nwangele council at the weekend when she presented 8,000 copies of school syllabus to primary schools in the area. The syllabus deals on topics like HIV/AIDS, computer studies and so on.

She stated that the National Assembly would soon intervene in some of the areas where their schools are seriously dilapidated by taking concrete actions aimed at reconstructing them.

This, according to her, is to improve the standard of primary and post-primary institutions in such areas.

She announced a three-year scholarship scheme for gifted children in the four local government areas of the constituency and pointed out that the best 10 pupils and students in each of the local government areas would benefit from the exercise annually.

The lawmaker expressed worry over the inadequate funding of schools in her constituency. "This," she argued, "has led to the worrisome decay of infrastructure in the educational institutions in Nwangele/Nkwerre/Isu/Njaba federal constituency."

Besides, Akano called on the organized private sector to intervene in the education sector of the state to save it from total collapse.

Akano also disclosed that the National Assembly had asked the Federal Government to commence the immediate execution of the N24 million motorized boreholes in the Nwangele/Nkwerre/Isu/Njaba federal constituency, adding that the government would do so in other federal constituencies.

She however pledged to provide classroom forms and books to schools in the constituency, even as she disclosed that the government through the National Assembly would soon build some skill acquisition centres in the constituency.
