Council Secretary Condemns Lukewarm Attitude To Education By Ayo Ajoge, Correspondent, Birnin KebbiThe nonchalant attitude of people living in the rural areas of Kebbi State to the educational development of children is a bad omen for the future of the children and the community, the Bagudo local government education secretary, Alhaji Mohammad Dogo-Jega, has said. Dogo-Jega said this at the speech and prize giving ceremony of the Iheya'aul Islam Immya Nursery and Primary School, Bagudo. The secretary, who was represented at the occasion by the council's deputy director of school services, Mallam Abdulmalik Ka'oje, expressed concern over the nonchalant attitude of parents and communities to the education of school age children in the state. He stated that it was disheartening and worrisome that Bagudo District had the least number of teachers in primary schools due to lack of interest in the teaching profession by young people from the district. The education secretary, therefore, called on parents across the state to show greater commitment to the educational development of their children and wards, just as he called on the people of the district to change their attitude to education and take keen interest in the teaching profession in the interest of present and future generations. Dogo-Jega, however, praised the efforts of the proprietor of Iheya'aul Islam Immya Nursery and Primary School for deeming it fit to establish the school, pointing out that the school had served as a centre of excellence in the entire local government area. In his speech at the occasion, the proprietor of the school, Malam Kabiru Magaji, explained that the school was established in 2005 with an initial intake of 40 pupils. He added that currently, the population had grown to 200 pupils. Magaji said that the school operated a curriculum that integrates both Western and Islamic education. He commended Bagudo local government and the member representing the council area in the state House of Assembly as well as individuals in the area who had contributed to the growth of the school in the past three years. Also speaking, chairman of the school's Parents Teachers Association (PTA), who is also the member representing Suru/Bagudo Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Garba Abdullahi Bagudo, commended the council for providing land for the expansion of the school. He appealed to the council authorities and well to do individuals in the council to assist the school in the construction of additional classrooms to accommodate the increasing population of pupils. The ceremony featured presentation of prices to outstanding pupils and a send forth party for members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) who served in the school.
