MFA Exhibition Encourages Young Artists

MFA Exhibition Encourages Young Artists

Aina Onabolu Complex at the National Theatre, Iganmu, Lagos, from November 8 to 14 will be home to Multimedia Foundation of Artists (MFA) exhibition.

A Non Governmental, Non Profit, Non Sectarian and membership based on artists' development organisation that promotes multi-media concepts in tourism, arts and culture, MFA is a group of talented, dynamic and creative professional artists that aims to exist as an independent group.

Basically founded on August 17, 2004, by Christopher Ayaoge, a visual artist whose aim is to propagate the philosophy of aesthetic freedom and expression as a useful tool for national development to the advancement of Tourism, Arts and Culture, MFA comprises of 23 members, graduates, undergraduates and school leavers alike.

The exhibition, which has Beyond Imagination as its theme, is the second of its kind to be organised by MFA. According to the founder of the organisation, Chris Ayaoge, a new dimension will be added to the exhibition in the form of an art competition. Drawings on display will be judged by attendees to the exhibition and a certificate of merit presented to the winner on November 13. This, he says, is to encourage young artists in their work.

As a body, MFA is involved in organising workshops, tours within and outside the state and country, seminars and trainings for its members. According to the founder, members of the organisation stand to gain not just an ultimate exposure, but also access to facilities and a direct access to customers by cutting off third party meddling.

With a core value of integrity, hard work, honesty, creativity, peace and love strives to see a world where Visual Arts will be used as a tool for national development as well as being the best provider of quality and international standard artworks as a contribution to the emerging global economy.

"Every great invention started as an artwork, and so the importance of art cannot be overemphasised in the course of our national development."

Various forms of art are on display at the two week exhibition; ranging from painting, sculpting, drawing, shading among others. The exhibition serves as a form of encouragement to upcoming artists, as a handful of MFA members are made up of the category. This is in line with its mission statement, which is "to set a standard in the promotion of artists and their artworks beyond the visual art sector, as obtainable on a global level, support uniqueness of each individual artist as a single unit towards achieving the peak of their noble professional aspirations."

Following the success of this exhibition, it is expected that art will be used as a means of showcasing cultural heritage, and a reference point for cross cultural exchange programmes between Nigeria and other countries. It is also to make sure that MFA artists express themselves in their own style.
