Office Accommodation: Customs Boss Seeks Terminal Operators' HelpComptroller-General (GG)of Customs, Hamman Bello Ahmed, has appealed to terminal operators in the nation's seaports to, within the next two months, assist in providing office accommodation for the officers and men of service at the terminals. Speaking at an interactive session with licensed customs agents and service providers on Tuesday, Ahmed said if the terminal operators failed to respond, he might have no choice than to withdraw his men from the terminals. The CG, who said he visited the offices of the operators, lamented that while they operate in conducive environment, the terminal operators only provided ramshackle offices inside makeshift tents for officers and men of the customs operating in the terminals. He said the terminals ought to have customs warehouses. The CG also said that he may also discourage containers discharge at the terminals if the operators failed to provide the needed accommodation for officers. He said the scanning machines brought into the country by the service providers have failed in the discharge of their duties. According to him, the results from the scanning machines could not be interpreted as they all came out blur. He also gave them ultimatum to correct the anomalies or have their services stopped.
