NAMA Directed To Install ILS At Katsina Airport

NAMA Directed To Install ILS At Katsina Airport

The Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) has been directed to install Instrument Landing System (ILS) at the Katsina Airport to boost safety and accommodate the growing traffic.

This was contained in a statement issued on Thursday by the Agency's spokesman, Prince Supo Atobatele.

He said the directive was given by chairman of the NAMA board of directors, Alhaji Abubakar Baraje, during an inspection of the airport on Thursday.

According to Baraje, Katsina Airport requires critical safety navigational aids like the ILS to operate safely.

The board chairman gave the NAMA management one month to install the modern landing facility.

Baraje, who is also the National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) further directed that equipment meant for the airport should not be deployed to service other airports.

During another visit to the Government House in Katsina, Baraje told the Deputy Governor, Alhaji Suraja Daman, that NAMA would ensure the upgrade of the airport to international standard through the provision of modern navigational aids.

The Katsina Airport has a Runway that takes Boeing 747. It has Very High Omni Directional Radio Range (VOR) and Locator beacons.

The ILS will further boost safety.

Arik Air operates three weekly flights to the Airport which is also strategically placed for Hajj flights.
